An ideal Political Party

The recent protests against corruption have raised a lot of questions about the current system and all of them are genuinely valid. Of course everyone agrees that our constitution has been very elaborate and aims to address most of the issues but at the same time even it is not exempt from the laws of nature.

You might have come across this famous Murphy's Law which goes like this: "When you try to make something better by making it more fool-proof, evolution always catches up by producing an even better fool". The same applies to our constitution too, only difference being that our politicians(exceptions as always) aren't fools but goons who exploit the system.

I've always wondered why no political party has the discipline and organization such as what our corporates boast of. This leads to my final wishlist of how an ideal political party would/should be like to make the best use of the system.

  •  The party should (in principle) never come to power. It should always be in the opposition/coalition and remain the strongest critic. A majority in the house will definitely help.
  • The organization should be like a public company. All partymen should be given posts and should be salaried. All source of income should be disclosed and the party finance reports have to be published each qaurter.
  • A candidate should only contest from his home constituency or move-in to the constituency he contests in.
  • The election manifesto should not contain any freebies to each household instead should focus on long-term policies.
  • Welfare schemes to the families if any should be announced only during the term.
  • Performance appraisal shall be conducted each year and the results published to the public.
  • Election prospects of the party should be based on the performance in the previous term and not based on the promises given for the future.
  • Coalition should entirely be decided based on the reputation of the other party in the absence of which it should choose to sit in the opposition.
  • In case of a coalition, it should considered that the power is simply outsourced to the ruling party, all the procedures that apply to outsourcing shall be followed.
  • Membership to the party should be based on merit and a proper recruitment procedure should be followed.
Only so much has crossed my mind for now. But I'd definitely like the list to grow and be realized.
