ALIENS, AND WHAT I THINK OF THEM
Have you seen the movie 'Contact(1997)'? There's this dialogue that stands out.
Kid: Dad, do you think there's people on other planets?
Dad: I don't know, son. But I guess I'd say if it is just us... seems like an awful waste of space.
This is one dialogue I can never not think of when you talk about aliens to me. I don't know why but it really struck a bell in my mind. We humans have been fantasizing so much on this prospect that even people like me have an opinion on this topic just by watching Hollywood movies. After all, humans looking out for SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) is like a dog chasing its tail. You never know what the dog will do if and when it does manage to catch it. But its a thoroughly enjoying the experience all the same.
Even though that's the case, we still seem to try to do our best to prepare for the D-day. Would you believe if i told you there's material on the Internet to prepare you for such encounters? If you don't, try this.
On the other hand, our directors have been trying to portray the ET in various ways ranging from oh-cho-chweet(as in ET) look to the more prevalent you're-so-dead look (as in.... well, the rest of 'em). But there was this one concept that got me hooked on in the movie 'Alien vs Predator (2004)'. When the director explains the history of the relentless conflict between the two and how the ancient Mayans played their part, it is said the Predators were worshiped as GOD. Of course, we know that back then our ancestors were far too modest-cum-grateful and worshiped anything and everything that was, both literally and figuratively, 'above' (here's when i get to do the customary quote gesture) them. That humans today are so much different(better?) is a given from the fact that we are willing to accept the existence of Aliens but not God.
But then what if Gods ARE Aliens. I mean, not in the 'alienating' / 'outsider' sense of the word but just Extra Terrestrial Intelligent life forms? I began thinking on those lines and so many things keep coming up in my mind in favor of that argument. Soon enough I'll gather a few to present them in, what will be my next post hopefully.
